Aren’t you glad we live in a time of health trends? There are so many of them, there’s the right one for everyone, and you have the chance to try out, see what works for you without feeling any remorse since after all they’re health-related.
I personally have always been a fan of trends, especially when they’re healthy, so I’ve tried a lot over the years, from exercising more than twice a week, staying hydrated, cutting down on sugar and then giving it up altogether with the help of alternatives, to opting for bamboo underwear and clothing.
This last change has made me wonder if there was another way I could implement more of nature’s benefits in my day to day routines (other than the organic meals), minding the environment and sustainability at the same time, so after spending some days searching, I decided to give natural toothpastes a try.
Brushing teeth is one of those routines we do more than once a day and that’s exactly what makes this change important; good oral hygiene is about the products you use too!
Same as cosmetics, traditional toothpaste we’ve come to get used to over time has some not that beneficial chemicals that our gums absorb which is exactly what natural options don’t have, so first thing I did when purchasing was to ensure the toothpaste was free from triclosan, SLS, fluoride and microbeads.
Though portrayed as a great compound, too much fluoride can be bad, especially for young children because they tend to swallow some toothpaste with every brushing.
Likewise, the microbeads, the small plastic particles that don’t dissolve, are harmful for the environment, so I figured why should maintaining the health of my pearly whites be at the expense of nature when there are natural toothpastes to choose from.
Much to my surprise, there are many options available differing in ingredients, flavoured and unflavoured, size, price as well as the purpose, like whitening and strengthening toothpastes, all aspects I appreciate but what I mostly love about them is the way they make my mouth feel after brushing.
They clean my teeth and refresh my breath without any harshness to it and I pay attention to this because of my sensitive teeth, plus given that they’re made from natural ingredients, like Redmond clay, they help prevent cavities, plaque, tartar as well as gum disease.
As you can guess, I’m never going back to common toothpastes!
